Snuffle Mat

Fifteen minutes of sniffing tires a dog out more than a half-hour walk. Scent work is genuinely hard mental effort, and most dogs almost never get asked to do any.

Scatter a handful of kibble or treats into the fleece, set the mat down, and step back. Your dog works through it nose-first, methodically, the way they were built to. What you notice afterwards is a dog who settles.

Why it earns its place

• Tires the brain, not the legs. Useful on rainy days, after surgery, or for a dog on restricted exercise.
• Slows fast eaters right down. Serve a whole meal in it and a two-minute inhale becomes a fifteen-minute hunt.
• Fills the gap before you leave. Set it up on the way out of the door and the first twenty minutes alone pass differently.
• Nothing to break or swallow. Soft knotted fleece throughout — no plastic parts, no hard edges.

Care

Shake out crumbs after each use. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and air-dry flat — don't tumble dry, as heat flattens the pile.

A note on supervision

This is a foraging mat, not a chew toy. Dogs who tend to shred fabric should use it with you in the room.
